Hello World

I'm a software developer, researcher, open-source enthusiast, and outdoorsman. On this site you will find a few random things about me, including opinions, hobbies, and some other nice stuff.

Oh, PS, I'm a trekkie. 🖖🏻

The purpose of this website

Broadly speaking, I think that this homepage serves a few purposes: Here you can find some basic, professional info about me, as well as some of the projects I've done, and my tech blog. I am also somewhat open to freelancing, as long as you are willing to pay actual money for my work and not just a stake in your non-existent company. Apologies if that sounds a bit harsh, but I've gotten some weird freelance offers in the past:
  1. Some guy wanted me to make him a dating app, but wouldn't tell me what was different between his and the hundreds already out there. In exchange, I would be his "business partner". I asked him if he had thought about the cost of ongoing hosting, and his response was, dishearteningly, "Hosting? What's that?" To his credit though, I think he was just an overzealous business student who didn't know how software development worked. When I explained to him the full scope of what he wanted, he pretty quickly went back to the drawing board.
  2. I got an email directly from someone who wanted to make an "AI powered platform that helps salons find last-minute clients and fill booking slots" (or something to that effect). They were at least open that the project was unpaid, though they thought that their introductory CS coursework (in Python) translated to "strong technical leadership".
  3. In a Discord server I'm in (full of programmers), someone wanted a member of that server to help them create a recipes app that connected to grocery stores to help people buy ingredients. I don't think anyone linked him to AllRecipes, which already does that, but in retrospect maybe we should've.
